August 25, 2014

hey mom!! things are going great :) i have a little bad news though... elder palu... his first few days we worked a bit to hard and he has strained his feet and isnt allowed to walk much for the next three weeks...... three weeks!!!!! we taught more lessons this last week then this area has seen for a long time.. so thats a bit sad but we are hoping that we can make something work so we can still get around and heal him up :)

man i hate getting the ball rolling and then feeling like we have to start from scratch again... but maybe we are supposed to meet someone on a route we wouldnt normally take or something..

how is school going? its nuts Shelb is in high school.... man its going to be weird getting back.. I'm getting to the point where I'm getting nervous about it.. I would be comfortable staying here for a long time.. since we have to stay in the apartment and cant really leave anywhere I have been watching conference and reading the scriptures a lot... and before I get back I'm going to set myself a member missionary vision... things I wanna do, pray for and stuff... being a missionary really is the most fulfilling work anyone could ever do. and I wanna continue one for when I get back :)

ah man.. I picked out a missionary that I think dad was just like.. his name is elder grouhui.. he is german.. one of the hardest working missionaries I have ever met... I never saw a pair of shoes on him that looked new and shiney.. he worked so hard for his whole two years.. but whenever I would just talk to him he was hilarious :) his memory of movies and music was fantastic and he was someone I liked being around.. I wanted to serve with him so bad but he went home last transfer.. I want to be a missionary like that

So I had something I wanted to share but I'm out of time... there was a bunch of emialing to do today. I have some pictures.

the thought was on a talk called "Help Them Aim High" by president Henery B Eyring

I loved the scripture Isaiah 40 29-31... true that :)

so the new people are elder palu and omakaru. he is irish! he grew up in what sounded like the ninth distirct.... so i may have heard him wrong but it was cool anyway!

thats the harry potter bridge... cool picture eh?
that is elder omakaru

well i love you guys loads :) i hope ya have a good week. be safe.

this is a fire in the rain ha good old wales :) we wanted to get rid of some stuff so we burned it. it was fun!! i felt like a missionary serving in England in this one ha

August 18, 2014

Hey guys!! I have just a short thought to send this week.. I have been thinking a lot about how God puts people in our path.. becasue of course as missionarys we are always praying to have people put in our path... well I came across this quote

"Luck is when preparation meets opportunity"

My whole life people and players have come up to me and said, ‘You’re lucky. You’ve had a lot of opportunities come your way, and you’re really lucky to be doing what you’re doing and what you love to do.’ Well, there’s a saying that says, ‘Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.’ You have opportunities every day, and if you’re not prepared for them, they’re just going to pass you by.” Wally Joyner (MLB All-Star)

No matter who we are, if we are prepared, God will put opportunities in our path. be worthy. be ready to serve. and do it!!

God calls those he knows is ready.. even if you may not believe it.. he knows better then us!

We have been able to spend some time with the Jones family, they are so good to the missionaries :) I love them! it was Gabbes birthday so we went over and ate with them. shared a spiritual thought and left..  they are a perfect example of how the gospel can affect families. solid!

Elder Palu and I work pretty good together :) he spent a lot of time with the missionarys before he came out so he knows and can teach all the lessons.. the problem is doing it in english... he is still translating in his head from tongan to english.  So we just chat all day and he is getting really good :) he studies so hard.. In the MTC he was getting really frustrated becasue he couldn't teach in English that well... so when everyone would go to sleep he would go out in the hall to study.... he is such a blessing! whenever I say "ok lets go tract for a few hours or something" he just says "anything.. I will do anything." so willing to serve and so nice... tongans are really generous as well... we always just say whats mine is yours whats yours in mine... ah man im going to gain so much weight.... he is like ah man I'm feeling hungry! and throws in three ramen noodle packs and like 20 sasages for a snack, haha ah man I love this guy! I started working out again from getting hit and I feel great.

On the first day here in Merthyr we were walking his luggage to our flat and this drunk dude started to yell the f word as us... I have gotten used to it because there are pubs everywhere but Elder Palu looked so horrified.. I felt terrible. I wanted to like sheild him from the world. He said nobody does that in Tonga... people are nice there :(... so that was a warm welcome! but other than that we have been working so hard :) we are going to walk our feet off.. we have five return apts for tomorrow and a bunch for the week so things are going well.

sounds like your trip was a complete success!! Deanas hair looks good :) you all looks so happy!! I prayed so hard that you guys wouldn't have any problems on the way back.... planes are sketch.. but ya made it and all is well :)

i love you guys loads :) have a good week!

this is when i first met Elder Palu, He is from Tonga. The other elder is tukuafu, he went to high school with elder palu!

this is on his first day :) that jacket is a large haha the one i wore that makes me look tiny..

this is my boy!!!! my litteral son haha

ah man things have been so good.. he came out ready to work hard so we have been working our guts out... i love it!! his hand is as big as my face.

Hey family!!

So I bet you guys already heard the news. I'm training!!!! I'm getting a new missionary this Wednesday. This week we had a meeting on what its like to train and to answer any questions we had.. the moral of the whole meeting was how to be a good example. The best example we have in the whole history of the world is Christ :) so this upcoming transfer  I'm going to try and study a Christ-like attribute everyday.. so the one I chose to focus on this week was charity. I read thee chapters on charity. I really liked 1 Corinthians chapter 13

13 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

"Nothing you do makes much of a difference if you do not have charity. You can speak with tongues, have the gift of prophecy, understand all mysteries, and possess all knowledge; even if you have the faith to move mountains, without charity it won't profit you at all....

"Without charity—or the pure love of Christ—whatever else we accomplish matters little. With it, all else becomes vibrant and alive.

"When we inspire and teach others to fill their hearts with love, obedience flows from the inside out in voluntary acts of self-sacrifice and service" (Ensign, Nov 2007, 28–31)
Joseph B Worthlin.

and that is so true.. if we have a true desire to serve others and have charity, we will be blessed!

the church is true!!

make sure to have  a good week
